Greg MacDougall

Richard Turner & Son

Richard Turner & Son

From a non farming background, in the historic Scottish Borders town of Selkirk. Greg spent his school holidays and trained at his local St Boswells Mart. Joining Bentham in 2012, Greg flourished under the leadership of Stephen Dennis into Senior Sheep Auctioneer. Selling up to 7,000 prime and cull sheep weekly and increasing store lamb sales to record numbers together with the introduction of specialist pedigree sales.Greg is proud to have gained the confidence of buyers and sellers at local, regional and national leveland be recognised as guest Auctioneer at the Tame Summer Sheep Fair.

Greg told us, ‘I feel very honoured and humbled that customers took the time to nominate me. We hold a few special Marts the Heart sales, but our customers nominated me without us asking!

The fabulous Auction mart staff really helped rally our customers and local community – they set up a voting table with forms and encouraged voting by using the Auction Facebook page with lots of posts.

I feel privileged to win, not only for myself but for Bentham Auction Mart to get recognition too. The Awards are a great chance for everyone to get together and celebrate British farming especially in these uncertain times.’

New Auctioneer of the Year 2019 Winner

Drew Patrick

Hexham and Northern Marts

With a genuine love for the livestock industry, Drew champions the work of producers with honesty and hard work. He feels it is an honour to sell on behalf of a producer and a duty to give 100%, marketing their stock in the best possible way. Drew feels fortunate to be regularly selling Cast and Prime Cattle, Cast Sheep and at the successful Friday Store Lamb Sale.

Drew told us, ‘It was a huge honour to be nominated. It makes me feel very proud and it’s good to have feedback like this indicating that customers are happy with the services I am providing. Clients just nominated me without my knowledge – it was a huge shock when I found out I was nominated!

Winning feels like an amazing achievement which I’m still struggling to believe. It is a massive honour to be recognized for my work, by my clients and colleagues. It’s a good feeling to know your hard work is appreciated.

The Marts the Heart awards are a great showcase for the auction industry and feel they are a great way for auctioneers to get the recognition they deserve in these trying times, where there is a lot more pressure on their shoulders compared to previous years. They also highlight the need for auction marts and their role within the rural community.’
